Effects of DIF and Temperature Drop / Rise on the Stem Elongation of Plug Seedlings of Salvia splendens

Abstract
Effects of temperature drop/rise treatments before and/or after sunrise or sunset, and DIF on the stimulation or inhibition of stem elongation as well as changes in stem elongation per day were investigated using Salvia splendens ¢¥Red Vista¢¥ and ¢¥Hot Jazz¢¥. The rate of stem elongation showed a tendency to be greatest immediately after sunset up to midnight. Zero DIF (24/24, DT/NT) with temperature drops to 16~ at 2 hours after both sunrise and sunset was most effective in reducing plant height, from which plug seedlings obtained were shorter in stem length than those grown under -8DIF. In addition, Temperature drop shock by 4¡É water (TDSW) even under +8DIF after sunrise was also found to be very effective in reducing plant height.
